Since I watched Taxi Driver last night I decided to look up the sound designer for the film. Turns out he's been nominated for two oscars for best sound for Raging Bull (which does have fantastic sound) and Tootsie (which I have't seen, but I think is set in New York like Taxi Driver).
Also found out some interesting stuff, like he was an apparently uncredited boom operator for the first Godfather film and worked as a sound designer on notable films such as Saturday Night Fever, Carlito's Way and Groundhog Day...also The Muppets Take Manhattan.
